Introduction

Heat stroke can cause serious disease very quickly! Learn to recognize a person suffering from heat related illnesses and what can be done to rapidly stop the potentially deadly cascades triggered by high temperatures. Learn how to decrease a patient’s susceptibility to heat stroke, and what the public health issues are.

LEARNING MODULES:

With our experience writing curriculum for medical students during their clerkships and clinical rotations, we took care to explain the pathophysiology bases behind clinical findings. While the Heat Related Illness Learning Modules that focus on the individual patient were written initially for medical students, much of this material is relevant to all practicing clinicians and clinical trainees. The second Heat Related Illness Learning Module focuses on prevention and public health, and will thus be of interest to other people with public health or community health interests in addition to medical students and practicing clinicians.

CME:

We are providing free CME credit for physicians, or a Certificate of Completion for students and other clinicians. To sign up for the course, and view the full lectures, click here.

FACULTY HANDBOOK:

In addition to the foundational Learning Modules, we have developed a Faculty Handbook that contains questions designed to prompt insights and discussions. Although it was built to enhance faculty development and to stimulate the interactions between attending physicians and medical students, the Faculty Handbook Questions (with answers and discussions) can be used by anyone who wants to optimize their education from the Learning Modules or who wants to prompt engaged discussion within a group.

GUIDE TO ENGAGEMENT AND ADVOCACY:

We are offering a Guide for Engagement and Advocacy to help you engage in your community and starts you on a path to becoming an effective advocate. The Guide can be augmented by the various links in the Resources tab

Support was provided by the Technology Research Initiative Fund/Water, Environmental and Energy Solutions Initiative administered by the University of Arizona Office for Research, Innovation and Impact, funded under Proposition 301, the Arizona Sales Tax for Education Act, in 2000.
